From Viral Videos to Vows: The Story of MrBeast and Thea Booysen

One of the most successful YouTubers of all time, MrBeast, otherwise known as Jimmy Donaldson, has gotten engaged to Thea Booysen. As per news reports, they met when MrBeast visited South Africa.

Thea Booysen, who hails from Cape Town, South Africa, has a degree in neuropsychology from the University of Edinburgh. She is a content creator and author with a significant fan following. She began her career by streaming card-based video games on YouTube and Netflix. Her YouTube handle, TheaBeasty, has nearly 40,000 subscribers. Thea is also the co-owner of a South Africa-based e-sports organization, Nixuh. In the year 2022, she released her novel Marked Children.

MrBeast rose to fame in 2017 when his YouTube video counting to 100,000 went viral. Since then, his success spree has continued, with MrBeast often performing adventurous tasks and donating large amounts of money to people. He was the highest-paid content creator of 2022. Beast had told TIME in 2024 that he does not have any access to his bank accounts. He has a CFO, but his mother is the one who has access to his master bank accounts. He also mentioned that each of his videos earns a couple of million in ad revenue and a couple of million in brand deals. However, he claims to reinvest everything.

In April 2022, MrBeast and Thea made their first appearance together at Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards. In a podcast, Thea had said that MrBeast was very down-to-earth. She stood by Donaldson’s side when he faced criticism for allegedly unsafe working conditions on his game show.

When Pakistan’s General Zia-ul-Haq met Afghan President Nur Mohammed Taraki in 1978, Taraki was introduced to Zia as a comrade.
